Roger L. Chang

Graduate Student

I am a fifth year bioinformatics and systems biology PhD candidate in Bernhard Palsson's lab. I am a NSF Socrates fellow and NSF IGERT plant systems biology fellow. I am interested in applications of systems biology to address a diverse array of problems. My graduate work has primarily focused on two areas.

  1. Computational assessment of systemic drug response in humans and bacterial pathogens. I have developed a human tissue-specific metabolic model to study drug off-target effects with metabolic consequences. I am currently developing a framework for analyzing systemic effects of antibiotics in bacteria.

  2. Developing metabolic models of a photosynthetic system for industrial applications. I have completed a metabolic reconstruction for the green microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, which can be used for strain design to guide metabolic engineering efforts for improved biofuel and other commodity chemical production and to study metabolic properties of photon absorption.
