JAVA / Python Programmer with a Focus on Numerical Analysis – Alternative Energy Program UCSD Job ID: 65090

We are looking for a programmer with experience in Java programming and numerical methods and familiarity with SQL to support a new research project in the realm of algal biofuel production. As this position is designed to support a biological research project, familiarity with rudimentary biology is encouraged.

Responsibilities will include include implementing new, or optimizing existing, algorithms for integrating high-density data sets with biochemical models. The majority of the coding will be in Java (or Jython) and will often focus on improving the performance of code and algorithms developed in the Palsson lab. It is expected that the programmer will be able to compile open source libraries from source when necessary and be able to deploy and maintain an internal database of high-density biological data.
